Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated in many countries all over the world. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Nowadays Thanksgiving may not be as traditional as it used to be, however friends and family continue to gather to break bread and celebrate life. There’s a lot going on in the city and we have a full weekend ahead of us! Here’s a few of the events we will be checking out!
Flashlight Fridays at the Corn Maze
The Calgary Corn Maze is fun and challenging at any time, but think of trying to navigate the paths at night using only your flashlight! Bring your flashlights and your sense of direction, you’ll need both! For more details, visit them here.
Harvest Pumpkin Hunt on Saturday
Visit our friends at Butterfield Acres and roll through the crunch fall leaves of the farm to find some kid-sized pumpkins! Once they are found, decorate them into creative pumpkin-head masterpieces! Although this event takes place every weekend in October, this weekend is perfect for us! Visit them online here and purchase your tickets! The hunt schedule is filling up fast!
Family Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday
Use Sunday to spend with family. Whether you make the food together or you buy it, make sure you eat together, cell phone free! No one needs to check their IG or Facebook during dinner. Make a set time to take a group family photo or a shot of the food before everyone sits to eat.
If you’re short on time, we suggest picking up dessert at MM Food Market. We love the Pumpkin Pie at M & M Food Market –it’s lightly spiced Dickinson pumpkin puree with a light, flaky pie crust.
Free Public Swim and Skate on Monday
Check out the Free Swim and Skate at select Calgary Rec Pools! Make the most of your Monday and take the day to get in some physical activity! More details here!
Whatever you end up doing, we hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Let us know what you got up to and what you are thankful for by sharing on FB, IG or TW and using the hashtag #givethanksMBM.
